In this work we present an exploration of several aspects of Kalman filters. The central line of work revolves around the balance between the information provided by a dynamic model and the constraints that condition the system. This work, although independent, continues the work of the Thesis of Degree “Filtros Kalman en Sistemas con Vınculos” (Ariel Salgado, 2015). The exploration focuses on the possibility of using dynamic models that provide the least possible information of the evolution of the system, adding a constraint that reduces the possible results. Initially, we study these models using simulations to gain insight into what is happening. Also, we perform a reconstruction of a trajectory in which the dynamic model provides very little information and the contribution of the contraint to the estimate is clear. Finally, we analyze some tools to compare different estimation models, taking into account both the measurements and the predictive power of each. The text proposes an introduction to the Kalman filters in terms of probability densities and proposes a Bayesian approach for the interpretation of the different aspects of Kalman filter. The final result is a balance between the information provided by the dynamic evolution model of the system, the constraints that link it, and the measurements we have. Each one of these ingredients makes its contribution to reduce our uncertainties, having to compensate one the failures of the other two. In this way, it is clarified what are the possibilities it provides, and what is the scope of this filtering algorithm.
