In this work, the design, manufacture, assembly and preliminary tests of the impactfretting test rig were performed. The test rig developed is used in the study of the effects of the impact-fretting damage on steam generator tubes in the nuclear industry. Impact-fretting or oblique impact is one of most common mechanism of failure in service on steam generators, one of the most important components of nuclear power plants. First, a bibliographic review of the impact- fretting phenomena together the main variables to measure during test were realized. Then, commercial and laboratory-made tests rigs were analysed. Based on this, the design and manufacturing of impact fretting test rig were considered. The conceptual design of the oblique impact fretting device was performed using Canadian Nuclear Laboratorie test rigs. Actuators and transducers were selected and the design and mechanical verification of the components were conducted using the software SolidWorks and Abaqus, respectively. The control system used an Arduino device communicated with a PC through the software Labview. In order to acquire data, the universal amplifier of HBM's QuantumX data acquisition system was used. Finally, the device was manufactured and assembled. Preliminary tests for the characterization of the test rig were performed and the impact-fretting damage on Inconel 690 steam generator tubes against AISI 304 support ring was analysed for different sliding/impact wear conditions.
